Summer Camp begins with safety drills

PERRYVILLE, MO (KFVS) - A summer camp in Perryville Elementary began with crafts, swimming-and safety drills.

Every student at "Camp Curiosity" started the summer program with a review of disaster and intruder safety protocols, and a classroom tornado drill, according to school leaders.

“We kept it informal and let the boys and girls ask questions until they were comfortable with the procedures and familiar with where they should go,” Assistant Principal Mike Wortmann said. “Our teachers and volunteers did an excellent job with the drill. We want to be prepared for anything that could happen."

Assistant Superintendent Russell Leek said that Perry County School District 32 conducts regular drills during the school year as well.
