61-mile Yard Sale kicks off Thursday

PERRY COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - The Missouri Department of transportation is warning drivers to use caution while driving along Route 61 because of the 61-mile Yard Sale from Bloomsdale to Jackson.

MoDOT says visitors and residents will be out in full force Labor Day weekend in search of bargains.

"It's a fun weekend that people look forward to each year," said Traffic Engineer Craig Compas, "but we want people to remember that there's more traffic and more congestion along Route 61 this weekend than any other and drivers need to keep that in mind."

According to MoDOT, message boards will be in place along the route to alert drivers of the unusual traffic patterns and promote safe driving.

"We really want drivers to be alert-to be aware of their surroundings, to be aware of sudden stops and to look for pedestrian traffic," said Compas.  "It's a big event locally, and we want everyone to enjoy themselves and be as safe as possible."

PERRYVILLE,  MO (KFVS) - The Perry County Memorial Hospital has donated a historical medical device to be featured at the Perry County Historical Society.

The Oxygen-Air Pressure Lock was given to PCMH in 1951 by the late Dr. and Mrs. O.A. Carron. A Houston pediatrician introduced the positive pressure oxygen air lock for the delivery room in the 1950s to aid in resuscitating newborns. The machine was infused with warm, humidified oxygen and had incubator-like features.

According to PCMH, archives from 1952 credited the use of the equipment for likely saving an infant's life that was born weighing only 2 pounds and 12.5 ounces at PCMH in 1952.

“We are so pleased to have the first incubator at the hospital for display,” said Nancy Moore, Perry County Historical Society. “We plan to add it to our items donated by Dr. O.A.
