Saxon Lutheran to prepare farm dinner for public

FROHNA, MO (KFVS) - The Saxon Lutheran Memorial will prepare a farm dinner for the public on Saturday, August 20.

Saxon Lutheran will make the dinner using local produce and serve wine. Organizers say you can enjoy the dinner visiting, making friends and learning about local cultures and history.

A full day of touring the regions is arranged and itineraries are available upon request.

There is limited seating, so Saxon Lutheran recommends buying your tickets now.

Community baking day at Saxon Memorial

FROHNA, MO (KFVS) - Saxon Lutheran Memorial will hold a community baking day on Saturday, August 6.

They welcome you to come and bake things like cake, bread, pie, casseroles or roast vegetables in their outdoor brick oven.

Baking starts at 9:30 a.m. and goes on until the last item is finished.

PERRY COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - The Antique Tractor Club will bring their tractors to the Saxon Lutheran Memorial on Saturday, July 30 for a parade.

The antique tractor parade will be from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and will feature around 122 tractors.

The concerts are downtown on the square from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Nominate someone you know for the Mo. Older Worker of the Year contest

PERRY COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - The state of Missouri is looking for your nominations for their annual Older Worker of the Year contest.

The contest looks to honor a Missouri resident who is 60 or older, employed at least 20 hours a week and shows dependability and new skills on the job.

The winner and regional finalists will be recognized at a two-day awards ceremony in Jefferson City, Mo. in November.

"Older workers play a vital role in our economy," said Margaret Donnelly, director of the Department of Health and Senior Services, which is helping to sponsor the contest.  "They're highly valued for qualities such as judgment, commitment to quality, attendance and punctuality. Companies who recruit mature workers can attract top talent in a changing workforce."

The Older Worker of the Year for 2010 was Nina George, a teacher's aide for 44 years.

Perryville band playing Joplin benefit event

PERRYVILLE, MO (KFVS) - A band from Perryville and other local bands will be playing the Patton Farm Fest to benefit Joplin tornado victims.

The Tungsten Groove will play at the fest that is June 18 and gates open at 3 p.m. The live music will start at 5 p.m.

Other local bands playing include: Craig Sutton and Steel Wings, Curtis Lyn Cook and "Cowboy Scopus" and Chas & 16th Ave.

Admission for the concert is $10 and you are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

It will be located on Highway 72, just west of Meadow Heights School in Patton, Mo.

Bluegrass Music Fest coming to Frohna

Bluegrass Music Fest coming to Frohna

FROHNA, MO (KFVS) - Saxon Lutheran Memorial will be hosting their first annual Bluegrass Music Fest on June 25.

The music fest will start at 12 p.m. and continue throughout the night and will feature several performers from the bluegrass music world including:

  • George Portz and the Friends of Bluegrass - Shiloh, Ill.
  • The Punches Family - Fredricktown, Mo.
  • Janie Brown and the Chestnut Mountain Gang - Jackson, Mo.
  • Blue Steel Rail - St. Louis area
  • The Gipsons - Marquand, Mo.
  • Heather Shorts and the Sounds of Bluegrass - Perryville, Mo.

Jammers are also welcome to bring their instruments and enjoy picking and playing.

Admittance is $15 for the day, 15 years and younger are free with a paid adult ticket. You can order tickets in advance for $13. Participants are asked to bring a lawn chair and flashlight.
