Perryville fire chief, 3 workers fired after scrap metal theft investigation

PERRYVILLE, MO (KFVS) - Perryville Fire Chief Charlie LaRose has lost his job due to an investigation into stolen property.

According to Mayor Debbie Gahan, the board unanimously decided to dismiss LaRose after escalation of the investigation of stealing some damaged metal that was struck by lightning from a city well after a storm.

Gahan said he sold this scrap metal, which was estimated at around $6,500. When the investigation began, she said he lost his job as the superintendent at the Public Works Department after 35 years working there.

She said three other workers were also fired at the Public Works Department in connection to the scrap metal theft. They are: Chris Favier, James Thompson and Carl Davis.

The Perryville Fire Department is now being ran by three assistant fire chiefs that are jointly acting as the fire chief. Gahan said they are looking into finding a new chief and will probably vote on it in the May ballot.
