Southeast Coalition for Roadway Safety offering grant funding to host student lock-in events | Events
(KFVS) - The Missouri Department of Transportation's Southeast Coalition for Roadway Safety is offering grant funding to local schools that host student lock-in events for Project Prom or graduation.
Ten qualifying schools will receive $200 to assist with expenses for location rental, food, entertainment and door prizes.
"Supervised events, such as lock-ins, provide a safe environment for students to celebrate," said SE Regional Coalition Coordinator Craig Compas. "We want students to have good memories of these nights-unmarred by a drinking and driving accident."
The Southeast Coalition will accept applications from schools within the southeast region until March 8. Interested schools and/or their sponsors can obtain Community Outreach Grant applications online at www.savemolives.com/southeast/resources.html or by contacting Sandra Taurone at 573-472-5388 or sandra.taurone@modot.mo.gov.
Applications must contain action plans for the school's lock-in, including education on highway safety in their night's agenda. Additional consideration will be given to regional schools that have participated in other coalition events and programs throughout the year.
The Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety, a diverse group representing engineering, enforcement, education, and emergency medical services, was created in 2004 to reduce traffic fatalities and disabling injuries on Missouri's roads.
