Perry County family trying to set up animal shelter | News
PERRYVILLE, MO (KFVS)- Homeless animals in Perry County haven't had a place in the county where they could be adopted.
But one family is trying to change all of that.
Steve and Linda Svehla want to build an animal shelter in Perry County.
Right now, all stray animals picked up in the county are taken to the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri in Cape Girardeau, which adds to the overcrowding problem.
Steve says it's a problem that needs to be taken care of quickly.
"The need is growing every day," he said. "The animals that are taken in are usually put down, euthanized. They do have a pound in Perryville, but there is no resource for Perry County itself."
The Svehla's admit that it's going to take a while before the shelter is built, but said they're ready to do whatever it takes.
The biggest issue right now is securing land and donations to make their dream a reality.
