Missouri Amendment 3 would change judicial appointment process
Politics

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS)- On Tuesday, Missouri voters will decide on Amendment 3, which would change the judicial appointment process.

Amendment 3 would modify what is known as the "Missouri Plan" in state courts, which claims to keep the appointment process of judges non-partisan.

It's a plan that's been in tact since the 1940s and has been copied by more than 30 states.
Currently, judges in the state are nominated by a non-partisan commission before being selected by the governor.
The amendment would give more power to the governor, allowing him to appoint four members of that seven person commission.
Supporters of the amendment says this would allow voters to hold the governor more responsible for the judges in the highest courts.
Opponents say it would politicize the appointment process.
